Stress-related disorders can have a great impact on the mental and physical well being of any and every person. Disorders such as depression, addiction, PTSD, and anxiety don’t discriminate and can affect all age groups.

It has been understood that exposure to a traumatic incident in life like a severe accident, loss of a loved one can develop abnormal thoughts and behavior changes in some individuals. These changes are more commonly known as mental illnesses.

Stress along with trauma from certain events can cause psychological reactions in people. As the feeling of stress can be both conscious or unconscious, it usually arises out of pressure that can go beyond one’s adaptive capacity.

Stress can be initiated through events such as childhood neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, natural disaster, accident, or even torture. It can threaten and harm people above and beyond their absorption ability. Another thing about stress-related disorders is that they are highly individualized. It is dependent on factors such as rate, intensity, duration, etc. Stress disorders can be both acute and chronic.

Acute Stress Disorder: This disorder begins immediately after the event and lasts anywhere between 3 days to a month. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder: This disorder may develop as a continuation of acute stress disorder or as a separate disorder. It lasts for more than a month and up to 6 months.
